Well, my oldest daughter got her drivers license the other day and I am just sick about it. Not because she’s getting older and closer to walking out my door although that hurts. Not because it makes me feel older…even though it does…and that hurts. Not because our insurance premiums are about to go up significantly…because they are…and that’s really going to hurt. I’m just sick about it because for the first time in my life as a parent I have willingly put one of my children in harms way. And that hurts more than anything.
It hurts me to think that she might make the wrong driving choices that lead to her being harmed. It hurts me to think of the dangerous situations she might find herself in or even put herself in. It hurts me to think that she will be out there at the mercy of other drivers… other people. And how hard the waiting will be until I see her walk through that door…finally home… safe and sound.
And as I think about that I now know how God must feel as he sits in heaven and watches us live in this sin soaked world. How much it must hurt Him to see us make the wrong choices that lead us to ruin. How much it must hurt Him to see the spiritually dangerous situations we put ourselves in. How much it must hurt Him to know we are at the mercy of other sinful self-seeking people, not to mention Satan. And how hard it must be for our Lord and Savior to have to wait until He sees us walk through that door finally home safe and sound in eternity. All I would do is to ask her to know what takes place in the heart of her parents while she is out there on the highways. And all I would ask each one of us is to know what takes place in the heart of God while are living our lives. And to know what we do affects Him. John 11:35. |

What is a legalist? Well if you ask those who claim to be in the know, they'll say a legalist is a person who attempts to justify themselves before God with observances, laws and deeds with a strict, almost obsessive conformity. Behind closed doors these same people say that a legalist is a person who is mean, closed-minded, with no inner love or compassion. They are in love with law, not with people. They insist that legalists do what they do because of the fear of being sent to hell, yet relish in telling other people they’re going to hell if they do not think like they think. They love to fight and point out the flaws in others.

My wife remarked to me a couple of weeks ago with a sparkle in her eye as she viewed the ice and snow falling... “Sometimes I think this is God’s way of saying...slow down...stay home... and take a break. I think she’s right. It seems that people in our culture are unrelenting to achieve more and more things or participate in more and more events and increasingly have less and less time. We are constantly running, always hurrying, never slowing down. I remember a scene in a movie from years ago when a bumbling stumbling father on vacation inadvertently tied the family dog to the bumper and then took off down the road. Buster didn’t make it... or whatever his name was. I sometimes think we’re a lot like that dog in that life sometimes pulls us at speeds that we were not meant to go. And it hurts us in more ways than one.

After reading yet another article from a community church preacher posing as a preacher in the Lord's church, I've come to a conclusion. Their religion is a figment of their imagination. All they can seem to do is to conjure up out of thin air attitudes, stances, and mindsets that don't really exist in the Lord's church and then attempt to disprove them, speak out against them, and pretend to take a brave and noble stance by standing opposite of them. At the heart of this deception is what is commonly referred to as a "straw man argument".
